The city of Katy is located in the counties of Harris, Fort Bend and Waller, Texas. The population, according to 2014 estimates is 15, 600 residents. Residents of the city enjoy a cost of living lower than the state and national average. The unemployment rate is considerably lower than the state and national average due to a high employment productivity rate.

Katy enjoys a strong economy and has become attractive to corporations that have located in the area. Schools in Katy School children are educated through the Katy Independent School District (KISD) and provide educational opportunities for children from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. The schools include the University of Phoenix Houston Campus, Chamberlain College of Nursing Texas, North American College, Prairie View A&M University and the Culinary Institute. The schools are public and private educational facilities offering a variety of career courses and degrees. The schools are also two and four year in duration and offer undergraduate and graduate programs.
